1 My response to the end of the story was that it didn't tell everything that happens to their dad. I wanted to know what happened to their dad because it just ended and never told what happened to their dad. a conflict that got resolved was that Hideyo found Yoko and Ko so they did not have to worry about their brother any more. Also they met up with Corporal Matsumara so they were happy because he was an old friend of their family. Another conflict that never got solved was that they never found their dad and he could be dead or he could still be alive and they don't know at all. I think that she chose to end the book their because maybe she thought that the part were they found their brother was a good ending. Because it was a happy ending and she might have forgotten the rest.
2 I think that they still observe their family traditions because that is their culture and it is the only thing that they still had from their Japanese life. I think that it serves a big purpose in their lives because it is their culture and it is the way they grew up and they want to still remember their life back in their hometown. I would eat all the traditional food if I could and I would celebrate holidays.
3 I respect Ko the most because she was very brave and she was very responsible for her sister and she helped her mom. Also because she helped her sister after their mom died and kept her alive. She was just really responsible for her family. Like when she was shoe shinning to get money so they could have a New Year dinner.
4 I learned that many people suffered from the bombs and it was horrible. People had to leave their homes to stay safe. I also learned more about what the war was like. I got to learn more about the lives of the people who were effected. I would like to learn more about how the people got effected by the war. Also how they reacted to the war. I want to learn how the people survived.
5 I think that the theme of this book is that their is nothing more important then your family and friends. The reason i think that is because in the book the Kawashima family went through the war and they were always caring about each other. Also that you should always care for others when their is no one to care for them.

OP#4
1 I think that Yoko is helping Mr. Naido because he was the only one that was nice to him in her school and he was lonely also. I also think that she helped him because he helped her by giving her paper and writing utensils when she need them and he also gave her brushes for calligraphy. Mr. Naido helps her because she was the only nice one to him when she first came she started to help stop stuttering. They both have people that make fun of them and they both are nice to people even if they don't know them very well.
2 I think that when Yoko saw Ko on the street she realized that she was really helping Yoko not staying late after school hours. It is a turning point because she thought that Ko was just staying after school to do extra work and not helping them get food or cook. But when she saw Ko on the street she started to be nicer to Ko and friendlier because she knew that Ko was helping to get money for them to buy food.
3 What do you think Yoko and Ko are going to do if they find Hideo? Why?
Answer: I think that they are going to try and earn enough money to but some better clothes for winter and then i think that they will try to wait to find out if their dad died or if he is alive. Because they really want to find Hideo because then it will be a lot easier to get money and protect themselves. Then they are going to see if their dad is alive or dead because if he is alive he can earn money for them and it would be easier to live.

OP#3
1 a. I think that they want to leave because they are afraid that they will get into trouble and they don't want to get out of the train station because there is not enough room and the soldiers are coming. Like when the soldiers were raping the girls in the station so they had to get out of the station an dinto safety.
b. I think they did the right thing to leave before somethong bad happened and ethier Yoko, Ko or their mom got hurt. I think that Hideo will be able to save himself but it woulc be nice to wait for him but they did not have time because of the soldiers. I would have left him because he is about 18 and he would be able to survive on his own because he is brave and he is very smart and he knows how to defend himself.
2 Why do think that Hideo wanted to get to the light so much?
I think that Hideo wanted to get to the light so bad because he really thought that it was a way out of the storm and he wanted to see his family. Also because it was freezing and he saw the light and thought that it was a farm house.

OP#2
1 I think that Hideo is very brave and I also think that he is always thinking of his family. He is also very smart and knows how to react when there is an emergency. I think that Hideo is very mature. He is always acting like he is the father and that he is in charge. Like when he was signing up for the army with out asking his mom first.
2 I would bring
- Plenty of water in canteens so that I could stay hydrated.
- Food so could stay healthy.
- As much money as possible in case I need to buy something.
- Pictures of my family to remind me of them if I ever get separated from them.
- Some warm clothes and some clothes to wear when it is hot.
- A hat when it is sunny so do not burn my face.
3 The part that I found most shocking was when Hideo was in the tunnel and he felt something warm on his shoulder and when he lit his candle again he could see that the warm liquid was the blood of an old man who could not move out of the way before the train. Because it was really horrible and it was very descriptive so I could picture it in my head and it was sooo disgusting.

OP#1
1 I think that Yoko is a very worried character. I also think that she is also very caring for others. Like that time when she gave up her water and food to the pregnant lady and her new born baby. She seems also very helpful for a ten year old. I also think that she is tough because when the solider kicked her in the ribs she just waited until it healed and then kept on with her journey.
2 I think that Yoko and her sister are very close they help each other when they are in trouble and they care for each other. I think that Yoko calls her sister " Honorable Sister " because that is the tradition for their family and their culture. She also calls her " Bossy " because she thinks that her sister Ko is always trying to act like she is the leader. She is really just trying to keep her family safe but Yoko is too young to know that. When they were on the bridge trying to cross it and Ko was yelling at Yoko to hurry up and Yoko called her sister " Bossy " Ko was trying to make sure that they make it across the bridge safely. Then Ko dropped her sack and ran back on the rail road track bridge and carried Yoko across she was being good to her sister and caring for her.
3 I think the Kawashima Family acted very good when they got on the train full of patients. Instead of getting all grossed out they were nice and caring for the patients. That shows that their family is caring for others. When they got on the train they started to talk with the patients, give them water and take care of them.

Independant Reading
TITLE: Lion Boy
DATE: 11/9/07
TIME: 2 Hours
AUTHOR: Zizou Corder
TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK: 34
PAGES 19-52
RESPONSE: I would like to be like Charlie (the main character) because he can talk to cats and lions. I think that it would be cool to be able to talk to cats because then they could tell things that no one else notices. It would also be cool to talk to cats cause then you could always have someone to talk to. It would be like speaking a language that no other human can speak you could tell them things that you want to be secret or just have a conversation with them and no one would know what you are talking about. The reason that Charlie can talk to cats and lions is because when he was a little boy his dad took Charlie on a walk in the forest. They saw a leopard that had a cub with her and the cub got bit by a snake. So Charlie's dad went over to the leopard and gave the cub a antidote for the snake bite. But Charlie was going up to the cub ant then the cub scratched Charlie in the arm and got some leopard blood on Charlie. So that is how he can talk to felines.

Independant Reading Lion Boy
DATE:11/2/07
TITLE: Lion Boy
TIME: 1 Hour
AUTHOR: Zizou Corder
TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK:18
PAGES 1-18
RESPONSE: I think that the most exciting part that I read was when Charlie came home from school and he found his house empty and his mom's laboratory was open and nobody was inside the lab. Then Charlie went to look for his dad and he thought that his dad would know what is going on. He went to look for him down by the river and at the train station but his dad was nowhere to be found so then he went back to his house and he saw Rafi a really big kid that looks old enough to be an adult standing in his doorway. Charlie noticed that his mom's lab was locked shut but there was no keys on the key hanger. Then Rafi told Charlie that his parents went on a trip and that they left him a note. But the note was nothing like what his mom would say. Then Rafi made Charlie pack up all of his personal items and took him away.
I think that Charlie is going to escape from Rafi and then try to look for his mom and dad. Because he seemed very suspicious about the letter from his mom and he thought that it was some kind of code that told him what really is going on.
Five Vocab Words:
- Condemned: When you show that you're against something.
- Deceive: When you mislead someone.
- Envy: To be jealous.
- Forgery: Falsely making or altering writing.
- Contemplate: Observe, study very thoughtfully.

Final Wave Post!
#1
“For the rest of your lives…never, ever, allow a group’s will to usurp your individual rights.” (pg.135, The Wave) I think this quote means that you will always have your rights and nobody can change that. If you fell uncomfortable with what a group is doing or if their treating you bad then you should stand up for yourself.
I can apply this quote to my life if I was in some club that doesn't like people with blue eyes and they forced me to join. If I knew what they were doing was bad then I could quit the club or try to make them stop treating other people so badly.
#2
I think that in the beginning Robert was very shy and never thought much of himself. He also didn't have very much confidence in his work and every thing he did. But then when he joins The Wave he gets more confidence and he feels like he is equal to everyone. He started caring more about his grades. At the end of the book The Wave ends, so Robert starts to get very sad like how he was before The Wave he lost all the self confidence that he gained from The Wave.
I think that Mr. Ross will take care of Robert so that he will feel better about himself and so that he doesn't go back to the way he was before The Wave started. I also think that he will make sure he doesn't get picked in so much any more. So that he will have a better grade then before.
#3
a. I think that there are quite a few pieces of fascism. First off Mr. Ross is basically like a dictator what ever he wants or says the members of The Wave follow even if he was joking. He also shows fascism by having kids be rated out by each other because they aren't following the rules. For example when Laurie was protesting The Wave by writing what is really going on with The Wave and then David waited for her after school and he got into a big fight with her about The Wave until the point where he through her onto the ground.
b. Well the first one that came to me was the Holocaust. I think that this event in history was very fascist because Hitler hated the Jews so much that he became the Dictator of Germany and he started a group called the Nazis the Nazis were soldiers that would go around and take all the Jews away to prison camps just because they were Jewish and different. I think that it is wrong to treat people that way only cause they are different or they have different beliefs about things.

Project Reflection
Project Reflection
Project Title: Family History Project
Class: AB Date: September
PURPOSE
The purpose of this project was to learn about our family's history and just basic history of that event. In order to learn about the Great Depression, I had to write notes from web sites and make the notes in or own words the notes had to be at least four pages long. Then we had to type up a historical narrative using our notes. The historical narrative that told the story of our historical event. Then we had to make a personal narrative that was from our notebook that we write in every Tuesday and Thursday. We had to add to our story from our notebook to make it one page and more detailed. Then we had to get some artifacts I asked my Grandpa
if he has any pictures from that time. My uncle has a pocket watch that is from my Great-Grandpa. The we had an exhibition for the parents.
WHAT I LEARNED
I learned about my Grandpa more and how people lived during the Great Depression. I explored the Great Depression I found out a lot of facts about the Great Depression. I learned that many people invested in the stock market and when it crashed many people had huge loans to pay off so when they couldn't they lost every thing. People lived in shacks made from scraps that they found. I learned how to research, take notes, and type better.
REFLECTION
I enjoyed this project because it taught me about a historical event that was important to my family. Also it helped me learn more about my Grandpa. Next time I would have ordered the way I put my scrap book together because it doesn't tell what I am talking about first.
ARTIFACTS
I am going to put a picture of my scrapbook on my DP.

Wave op#5
#1 I couldn't find the question for op#5 on Mrs. I's blog so sorry.
#2 The quote that stood out to me was " I'm not used to seeing you alone. Where are your troops?" (pg.112) I liked this quote because it shows that David is like a soldier and just follows orders from his leader.
#3 Did you expect this ending for the book? If not then what did you expect?

Wave op#4
#1 I think that Ben thinks that The Wave is all his fault. Also that if he would have never started The Wave this all would never have happened.
#2 The quote that stood out to me was " But Laurie, the boy is Jewish." (pg.92) I liked this quote because it made me think that The Wave was making kids turn into Nazis. Kids would get harassed just for not wanting to join The Wave.
#3 How do you think that people will react to the article about The Wave?

Wave op#3
#1 People are sort of obsessing over The Wave. Some kids are living by The Wave. Students are using their free periods to listen in on Mr. Ross's lessons about The Wave. When The Wave experiment is over I think that some students are not going to be able to quit because they are taking The Wave too seriously.
#2 The quote that stands out to me the most is " No, Mom. That's the only thing that bothers me, and that isn't much. I promise you, Mom, this is a molehill and you're looking for a mountain. Really trust me."(pg. 74) I liked this quote because I like the metaphor that was used in it to describe the way Laurie's mom is taking The Wave too seriously.
#3 How do you think the Grape vine will be effected by The Wave?

Wave op#2
#1 David and Brad are saying that they want to bring The Waves motto in to their foot ball team. He starts by introducing the motto "Strength through discipline, strength through community." and their salute. Once the foot ball team is part of The Wave the whole school starts to become a part of the WAVE.
#2 I liked the quote " Maybe you're becoming a Guinea Pig in your own experiment" Christy said. I liked this quote because I thought it was funny and it was sort of true also. I liked the way she said he was becoming a "Guinea Pig" because it was original. (Bottom of pg. 54)
#3 How long do you think The Wave is going to last, and why?

The Wave by Todd Strasser
#1a This book's setting is at a school that is probably from 1969.
#1b Some clues that make me think it is in that time period is that. They are using type writers and we don't really use type writers any more. Another reason is the students smoke at school and the only time that students would smoke was when they didn't know how bad it was to smoke. Last they are using film projectors and we don't use those we use computers and a projector.
#2 I liked the quote "Principal Owens" "why is the door locked?" I liked this quote because I like the way the two girls reacted when they herd someone say that. Also how Amy rushed to through the cigarette she was smoking out the window before the "Principal" comes in and then they rushed to open the door. But then it turns out to be two pranksters Alex and Carl. ( pg. 23-24)
#3 What do you think the experiment is going to be?

Betty Ann
1. The saddest part was the part where the girls would all make fun of Betty Ann and gang up on her. Because she can't protect herself all by herself.
2. I think I would have not made fun of Betty Ann but I wouldn't have been able to completely stop every thing. I would have said something back to the phone call part to let her now that I was not going to make fun of Betty Ann.
3. The lesson of this story is moral courage. Which means how far could you go with out saying something about teasing or making fun of some one else. When would you have to stand up for the person being picked on.

Seventh Grade
My favorite line was when it said " The rosebushes of shame turned into bouquets of love". I liked this Quote because I could picture that part in my head. Because it was so descriptive. I also like how the author came back to the rosebushes.
I liked how he pretended to now French to impress the girl he liked. Because it was funny. I liked the way he made up words that just sound french. I liked how the teacher played along with him.

Test
I liked the quote " I was thinking about the driving I used to do for you when you were little" I liked this quote because it made me think that when I grow up that if my kids will do things for me.
I think that they should not use hypnosis on people because it can scare the heck out of them. Also it can make them never want to drive ever.
I think that the part about the uniformed man was all part of his dream too. Or he was also in hypnosis too and he never said any of that.

Planet Earth
The best part of the Planet Earth we watched was the part about Jungles. We learned that only 2% of sunlight reaches the floor of the rain forest. Another thing we learned is that there are over 40 different species of Birds of Paradise (bird). But they all have the same way to impress the females which is by doing a dance and showing off their body. When a tree falls there is a race for little plants to get to the top. Even a seed that just was dropped a day ago can start to grow extremely fast and get to the top in the sun. After a week all the sun is blocked because the plants grow and cover all the sun. Many will try to make it to the top but only a few will reach the top. On the tops of the trees is were all the animals are like monkeys, birds, frogs, and many more. Since there is no seasons each tree gives fruit at different times. That is the movie we watched hope you liked it.
