I think that It was really sad when Elli saw all of those people die in the corn field and it was so horrible when that one girls eyes got blown out. Also when one of the girls leg was blown off and she had to try to hold it on so it would not fall off. Another part that i thought was really horrible was when they had to go that long with out food or water.

I was so relieved when she was liberated and then they took her on the trucks to that German town where they were taken to their homes. But it was sad when that one laddie thought that Elli only 14 years old was 62 or 70 because of how bad she was treated. I felt really bad for Elli when she found out that her dad died two weeks before liberation.

Do you think that Elli will have a happy life in New York?

I think that it was really sad when the Hungarian police did not let the mother keep a picture of her baby. Also i think that it was a good idea what Elli did when she hid her poems in her blouse because they would've been burned and she would never have them again. I also thin it was nice when the young guard let Elli's friends give her the food and he let them talk for a little.

I also think that it was very sad when Elli didn't get to say goodbye to her dad before he left to go to the Labor Camp. Also she told her mom to wake her up before her dad left so she could tell him something but her mom forgot and she never even said goodbye. If I was in her place I would be really sad because I wouldn't even know if her was coming back at all and that could have been the last time she talked to him.

What do you think will happen to Elli's dad?

1. I think that Elli (the main character) is very frightened because she doesn't really know what is going to happen next. Also because she is a teenager, so she is worried about what everyone else thinks about her. Like when the Germans said that all the Jews had to wear the yellow stars Elli didn't want to go outside because she was embarrassed that one of her classmates would see it and make fun of her. Another reason iI thunk that Elli is so worried is because she thinks that she is not pretty or smart like her brother. So she thinks that her parents like him better and that makes her even more upset.

2. I think that Elli looks up to her brother because he is always helpful to his parents and he is smart. Also because her parents are always saying how handsome he is. I think that he will help his sister in the ghetto because he is strong and he won't get too worried so he can take care of his family. I also think that he will help his mom by cooking or cleaning and Elli will be so panicked that she won't help that much.

Why do you think that Elli was sad when she noticed that Jancsi Novak saw her yellow star?
